It's a fairer fire levy

Last year, the Victorian Government replaced the Fire Services Levy with a fairer system, as recommended by the Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission.

Rather than contributing through insurance premiums, a property-based levy is now collected with council rates. This means every Victorian property owner contributes a fair share to Victoria’s fire services, not just those with adequate insurance. Eligible pensioners and veterans also receive a $50 concession.

The levy funds vital life saving equipment, firefighters, staff and volunteers, training, infrastructure and community education.

100 per cent of the fire levy goes to support greater funding of the operations of the Country Fire Authority and Metropolitan Fire Brigade.
